Phool Makhana comes from the seed of Euryale ferox, an aquatic plant that thrives in the shallow ponds of Mithila — the Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia and Katihar belt of Bihar, which together grow the majority of the world's makhana, and which gave India the Madhubani painting tradition this brand's visual identity draws from.
New Fox Nourish works directly with pond-owning farmers and harvester cooperatives across this belt. We take the raw seed after monsoon harvest and manage grading, roasting and export in-house — so every lot can be traced back to the ponds it came from.
